My Favourite Season

Cute dog running through autumn leaves

It’s finally official: summer is over. For a lot of people, mainly students and their parents/guardians, summer was over in September when school starts back up. For me, I associate summer with warm temperature and we had a looooong summer this year with the heat wave.

Now the too familiar rain returns, the scarves and jackets are coming out of hibernation and the chill is starting to come in. For some it is a sad time because it’s the end of summer and 2026 is coming closer to the end. For me, it’s a time to roll out the red carpet and plug in the giant ‘Welcome’ sign because Autumn is here!

I love Autumn because it is the perfect season for me, sensory and hobby wise. For me, temperature is important as it either makes me sleepy or has me shivering. Summer is too hot and Winter is too cold, as for Spring the bugs are what freak me out. Hence why Autumn is the perfect season to me. The temperature is not too hot that it feels like I’m seconds away from melting into sweaty goo. It’s also not too cold that I’m shivering like a soaked chihuahua, no matter how many layers I have on me. As a certain porridge-stealing fairy tale blonde would say, “this is just right”.

The rain returning is even better because now I have an excuse to stay inside all day! Nothing beats being wrapped in a blanket and having fun doing my special interest, all while listening to the rain outside like calming white noise. Also, people don’t expect too much outdoors activities or interaction because of the rain, so I can relax and recharge without worry. I can simply say “Oh the weather is horrible, so I can’t today” if I’m feeling overwhelmed and no one bats an eye! Plus, I can drink all the hot chocolate I want without judgement! It’s the little joys in life that makes it amazing and Autumn combines all my joys into one season. Time to activate my introvert mode and enjoy Autumn while it lasts. Dusting off my cosy hot chocolate mug and pull out a book with a dishy male lead! To all my Autumn loving Autistic people on the internet, Happy Autumn!
